Located in southern Colorado, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a fascinating juxtaposition of two contrasting ecosystems; the arid high desert floor of the San Luis Valley and the rolling alpine forest and dramatic snow-capped peaks of the Sangre De Cristo mountains. Situated in between are the ghostly and dynamic sand dunes themselves; rising from the barren scrub flats, teeming with life and bathed in a constantly shifting light. Beautiful, mysterious, austere and in perpetual motion.
