The Panoramic Collage is a simple and effective method of deconstructing an image, sharpening your point of view and enlarging the camera’s viewfinder. For many years, I shot these collages on film, giving the process a mysterious and quasi-magical air, because you had to wait until after you’d left the shooting site in order to see the complete constructed image. Utilizing Ansel Adams’ technique of pre-visualization was essential; trying to imagine the final image in scale, composition, color and tone in the mind’s eye. The individual frames could also be enlarged, to enhance the image and emulate the scale of the panoramic view.
